::) :-/In the course of American History, Mary Dyer, Harriet Jacobs, Quakers, slaves, and the Chinese have been feared or discriminated against simply because of who they were. They also struggled against intolerance and oppression. The Quakers and slaves were living in the 1600s. Slavery continued into the 1800s also. The Chinese lived in the United States during the 19th century. Some of these people were not simply discriminated against for who they were, but they were also discriminated against for what they did, like the Chinese. :-/ :'(

Many in Americans' history aren't freedom or equality. There were some groups discriminated and oppressed by intolerant people. Groups of people like Africans, Quakers or Chinese were persecuted because of whom they were. Their languages, their religious beliefs and the way they do things make them different and others want to take advantage of them. Everyone is a person and people are all similar in ways. Discriminating others are like discriminating your own kind.

In the course of American history, many races or ethnic background like Africans, Quakers and Asian have been feared or discriminated against simply because of who they are. They were discriminated and oppressed because of their race or ethnic background because people took advantage of them. Like Harriet Jacob a African woman back in the days when there were slavery, she was taken advantage because of her skin color and Americans who are normally white make Africans do free labor. Mary Dyer is one of the many Quakers who lost their lives trying to achieve the goal of having freedom of religious beliefs. Mary Dyer was oppressed because she tried to fight back against Americans in Boston, but then got banished from Boston twice then on her 3rd time she was hanged. Harriet Jacob and Mary Dyer were females which deepened their intolerance by Americans because they see female as weak people and also Harriet Jacob was sexually harassed. Asians who immigrant to America were discriminated by Americans also because of their success in working and their skin color. Even though Americans did many horrible things to these people of different ethnic background or race, they did it for a reason, and those reasons or consequences helped shape America today.

In American history, the individuals and groups that were feared and discriminated because of who they are were Quakers, black people and Asian people. These groups have struggled in introlerance and oppresion their own ways. An example of a heroic Quaker who fought against discrimination was Mary Dyer. She was willing to die for her religion because everyone else disagreed on it. The Puritans(the people who discriminated the Quakers) were always insulting Mary Dyer and tortured her. They have spread a rumor that Mary Dyer gave birth to a monster because god was punishing her. An example now for discrimination and oppression against black people is Harriet Jacobs. She was oppressed by her master and mistress. Her master raped her and her mistress didn't let her wear shoes, go to her father's funeral and threaten to kill her. Her ways of oppression was threaten and treated like a property. Asian people were discriminated and oppressed just as well. They have come to America for financial reasons. They heard a rumor about gold mountain and came here to take some gold. But then when they came here there wasn't any gold and they had to get a job. When they did get a job to wash clothing the white men were jealous of their success out of it. Then they were forced to clothes their laundromat. Then the white people even made a law called the Chinese Exclusion Act which was to stop the Chinese from immigrating to America because they thought that they were stealing their jobs. They even murdered the Chinese. The white people were jealous of the Chinese people's talents of not getting sick. They resented the Chinese people because they made tea.
Did you notice that it was always white people doing all the discrimination and oppressing? If a white person is reading this now, why don't you ask yourself, how are you better? What makes you think that you are the best and no one can ever be better than you? Maybe this doesn't only go to the white people. Other people could also think that their race is the best race. So it actually goes to everyone. I guess this tells us that America isn't a perfect country. In fact it's far from perfect. But without these histories, America maybe wouldn't be like this today and I like how it is today. Even though it is still quite racist at least they don't flash it too much.
